TUI has resumed flights and holidays to a select group of destinations based on current government advice. However, in order to keep staff and holiday makers safe, the travel provider has also set out some important new rules passengers must follow.
Like most airlines, face masks are mandatory when on flights and in the airport.
Hand hygiene is absolutely crucial – with hand sanitiser recommended where soap and water are not readily available.
Yet along with the regulations in place onboard, there is a key change to the travel experience that must occur long before travellers pack up and head to the airport.
As the TUI website explains: “We’ll be asking you to complete a brief health declaration 24 hours before you fly.”
The relevant forms will be provided by TUI and will allow customers to disclose any potential symptoms they may be showing.
Some destinations, such as Greece, have also imposed a mandatory health declaration ahead of travel.
It is thought that these health declaration forms will help with tracking and tracing, as well as reduce the spread of COVID-19.
In an informative video, TUI captain Hayley Brewis also emphasises: “If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, please do not travel to the airport.”

Travellers are also encouraged to download the TUI app and check-in online to avoid long queues and ensure social distancing at the airport.
Similarly, Ryanair is also asking customers to follow some vital steps at home before they venture to the airport.
They warn that failure to do so could run the risk of missing out on holidays altogether.
As Ryanair explains on its website: “Remember to check your temperature before travelling.
“It may be checked again at the airport.
“If you do not pass this, you will be asked to return home.”
Along with new steps to be completed prior to the airport, TUI is also putting in place boosted hygiene and social distancing measures after arrival too.
TUI will be making the most of its app to help keep customers informed.
“You’ll also notice some changes in our destinations. We’ll use the TUI App to update you on airport transfers and – where possible – we’ll make more buses available to reduce the number of passengers on board at any one time,” explains the website.
It continues: “We’ve been training our in-resort teams for weeks.
“And, all our resorts and hotels will have the highest possible hygiene standards in place before they re-open.
“Guest rooms and all other areas of the hotel will be regularly and thoroughly deep-cleaned.
“Plus, other measures will be in place, in line with the local regulations in the resort.
“For example, you might see social distancing markers – these could be everywhere from restaurants and entertainment venues right through to the sunbeds by the pool.”
Social distancing measures do mean that some elements of the holiday experience may be quite different, such as the amendments to the way sports facilities work, or a reduction in table service in restaurants.
However, the holiday provider assures: “You can still expect the same excellent service TUI is famous for.”
