Spain holidays are a very thorny subject at the moment. Anyone returning from the holiday destination now has to quarantine for 14 days on their return home. What’s more, some major holiday companies such as Jet2 and TUI are axing their holidays to Spain altogether.
This has left many Britons in a bit of a pickle.

What to do if you’re already in Spain
Holidaymakers in Spain are not being advised to cut their holidays short.
What’s more your travel insurance should still cover you if you were in Spain when the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advice changed.
However, if you book a new flight to return home early you may not be covered it’s worth speaking to your insurer.
What to do if your booked holiday has been cancelled
If your trip was a package holiday then, under the Package Travel Regulations, if a package holiday is cancelled, you’re due a full refund within 14 days.
However you should be aware that getting a full refund could take longer during these unprecedented times.
If a flight is cancelled then under EU flight delay rules you’re due a full refund within seven days, although again there could still be be delay with this,
There is no specific regulation when it comes to hotel bookings as these stays are unlikely to be cancelled.
It’s probable you’ll be due a refund but it depends on local law.
What to do if your trip is booked and it hasn’t been cancelled
If you have a package holidays, under the Package Travel Regulations you should be able to get refunded within 14 days even if the trip’s not been cancelled.
However, you should check with your travel firm before you cancel as some companies are refusing to refund.
As for flights, if you choose not to fly but the flight is still operating you will not be owed a refund.
It’s worth checking with both your insurer and holiday company to what can be offered.
What to do if you have a future trip booked
If your booked holiday to Spain is still a few weeks away or more its worth waiting to see what happens.
It’s inadvisable to cancel the trip yourself as you will have no rights to a refund in most cases.
It’s best to wait for the airline or travel firm to cancel instead then you will have more rights.
