International Dog Day: Hotel launches ultimate holiday for pets

Let’s be honest, 2020 has been ruff on everyone, and it’s not just humans who are in need of a long weekend getaway or two.

We’re all feeling pretty over our four walls after months of quarantine, but for those of us out there with a furry friend in tow – a holiday isn’t quite the same without bringing your pooch along.

While pet-friendly holiday options are nothing new – think camping sites and caravan parks – to celebrate International Dog Day, the luxury hotel market is ramping up the catering for regular guests and your four-legged friends too.

To coincide with the big day, Ovolo hotels have launched a discounted ‘V.I.Pooch’ experience for two guests and up to two dogs in a single room when booked on August 26.

Dog-friendly rooms have always been available in every Australian Ovolo boutique-hotel, but normally it will cost you $80 for the additional guests.

But to celebrate the big day, the boutique hotel brand are offering their package – which includes everything your furry friend could ever need for a staycation – without the additional cost.

The package includes a dog bed, an eating/drinking mat so they can feast in style and even a

goodie bag packed full of specially designed dog toys and treats.

Much more than simply ‘allowing’ or ‘tolerating’ pets, Ovolo’s package joins a number of other hotels that go above and beyond to make their guests’ furry friends feel welcome.

The Langham in Sydney lavishes pets with their ‘Pampered Pets Program’ that features a pet room service menu for both dogs and cats. The hotel also provides pet-sitting and dog walking services on request, if you do need a little time out while on holiday.

The Hilton in Adelaide also offers guests the option to bring their four-legged friend along, and is the only Hilton Hotel doing so.

Hilton Adelaide welcomes dogs to stay and lap up the hotel’s luxury in an allocated set of pet-friendly rooms. But unlike some other venues, when it comes to public areas like the marble-lined lobby, outdoor pool, tennis court, and restaurant, it’s humans only.

In Queensland, Brisbane’s W Hotel has welcomed pets through its doors since its opening in 2018. Their P.A.W. (Pets are Welcome) packages include a custom pet bed, toys, treats, food and water bowls, and a very cool ‘Pet In Room’ sign for the door. Oh, and cats can stay here too!
