The travel and tourism industries have been forced to remain on hold throughout the coronavirus due to restrictions and bans. But now, as countries slowly reopen their borders airlines are preparing their operations to restart which includes putting new measures in place to give passengers peace of mind. From inflight masks to limited trips to the toilet, airlines are putting stringent measures in place to ensure their customers remain safe. As well as safety and sanitation measures, airlines are changing what services they can offer customers too, including bans on alcohol.

British Airways told Express.co.uk that they had to make “temporary adjustments” to catering onboard but that they were not banning alcohol.
British Airways said: “Like all airlines, we had to make temporary adjustments to our on board catering while we worked on a new solution with our catering suppliers that follows guidance from regulators, minimising interactions between our customers and crew.
“From June 16, we will be introducing an enhanced temporary catering proposition.
“Customers travelling to a long haul destination will be offered pre-prepared meal boxes including dishes such as a salad, hot entrée or sandwich, served with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
“Snacks will also be available between meals.
“Customers travelling to a short haul destination in our business class cabin, Club Europe, will also be offered a pre-prepared meal, such as salad or sandwich with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.”
They added: “Those customers travelling in our economy cabin, Euro Traveller, will be offered a complimentary snack and a bottle of water.

“As we navigate our way through these unprecedented times, we will continue to take advice from relevant authorities and incorporate this into the development of our on board experience.”
Virgin Atlantic told Express.co.uk that they have decided to “temporarily” remove alcohol onboard.
The airline said that to help minimise contact between customers and crew, they have “simplified” what they are offering people on board.
They have temporarily removed their inflight magazine and their retail therapy service.
Customers will be able to buy duty free products but they will only be available for pre-order and will then be delivered to their seats.
Virgin Atlantic said they are “temporarily removing alcohol” and are offering meals from a safe catering environment.
Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer, Virgin Atlantic said: “As the Covid-19 crisis stabilises and demand slowly returns, we are looking forward to welcoming our customers back onboard and flying them safely to their favourite destinations.
“To ensure the health and safety of our customers and our people, we’re introducing new measures at every point in the journey to offer peace of mind when taking to the skies with us.”
He added: “Our planned first flights will be to Orlando and Hong Kong on the July 20, however, we are monitoring external conditions extremely closely, in particular the travel restrictions many countries have in place including the 14 day quarantine policy for travellers entering the UK.
“We know that as the Covid-19 crisis subsides, air travel will be a vital enabler of the UK’s economic recovery.
“Therefore, we are calling for a multi-layered approach of carefully targeted public health and screening measures, which will allow for a successful and safe restart of international air travel for passengers and businesses.
“We are planning to announce more destination restart dates in the next two weeks for the month of August.”
