New discount airline Norse Atlantic Airways has set launch dates for this summer, with service from Oslo to four U.S. gateways.
Tickets are on sale at Norse’s website for flights to New York JFK, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Los Angeles.
Norse Atlantic will commence New York service on June 14 with thrice-weekly service. The route will ramp up to daily on July 4.
Next will come thrice-weekly Fort Lauderdale service, beginning June 18. Thrice-weekly Orlando service will follow on July 5, followed by thrice-weekly LAX flights on Aug. 9.
The carrier is offering introductory one-way fares from $129 from JFK to Oslo, $149 from Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, and $169 from Los Angeles.
“Norse now offers the lowest one-way point-to-point transatlantic fares in the market,” CEO Bjorn Tore Larsen said. “Whether traveling on business, leisure or simply wishing to explore the world, Norse now makes it possible for everyone to explore for less.”
Add-ons will cost extra. Norse Atlantic will operate a version of the ultralow-cost model, with three fare bundles for economy seats in its Boeing 787 Dreamliners and three bundles for premium-cabin seats.
Meals, space in the carry-on bin, checked bags, seat selection, priority boarding and refundability all cost extra in economy. The Economy Plus fare bundle on JFK flights, for example, includes all of those perks and sells for $399 one-way, more than triple the bare-bones Economy Light offering.
In the premium cabin, flyers will enjoy 43 inches of space between rows and 12 inches of seat recline with starting prices from JFK to Oslo of $349 one-way. That fare includes a carry-on bag, two meals, premium boarding and priority check-in.
But passengers will have to buy pricier bundles to receive items such as seat selection, checked bags and refundability. One-way tickets for the top JFK-Oslo bundle are $619.
Norse Atlantic flyers who choose a bundle that doesn’t include meals, or includes just one meal, will have the option of pre-ordering food during booking or buying snacks, hot meals and drinks in-flight. The carrier said it will offer a range hot food, snacks and beverages, including alcohol for purchase.
The carrier also said it will offer movies and TV shows on demand in every seat as well as USB chargers and a power outlet.
Norse Atlantic’s decision to serve JFK and LAX is a shift from earlier plans. When the carrier applied last year for an air operator’s certificate, it had listed Stewart and Ontario airports as intended launching points for the New York and Los Angeles markets, respectively.
Norse Atlantic said it will soon announce more U.S. destinations from Oslo as well as routes to the U.S. from London and Paris.
The carrier is not selling tickets through GDSs but will distribute to agencies via NDC-enabled direct connects.
“As a new start-up airline, our primary focus when it comes to tickets is on new digital channels (NDCs) and working with third parties that use those channels,” spokesman Philip Allport said.
