Results of Emirates’ on-site Covid-19 tests are returned within 10 minutes
Emirates has begun conducting on-site Covid-19 testing for passengers, the airline has announced.
On Wednesday, Emirates and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) conducted tests in the check-in areas for passengers prior to boarding a flight to Tunisia, with results coming back within 10 minutes.
According to Emirates, it is the first airline in the world to do so.
“The testing process has gone smoothly,” said Emirates chief operating officer Adel Al Redha. “We are working on plans to scale up testing capabilities in the future and extend it to other flights. This will enable us to conduct on-site tests and provide immediate confirmation for Emirates passengers travelling to countries that require Covid-19 test certificates.”
Additionally, Emirates has said that the airline’s check-in and boarding formalities have been adapted to conform with social distancing requirements.
Protective barriers have been installed at check-in desks and protective gear – such as gloves, masks and hand sanitisers – have been made mandatory for all airport staff.
Passengers are also required to wear their own masks while in the airport or on the aircraft.
Inflight services have also been altered to help combat the spread of Covid-19 and safeguard passengers. Magazines and other print materials are no longer available, while the packaging and presentation of food and beverage offerings has been modified to reduce interaction.
Cabin baggage is currently not being accepted on flights, with carry-on items limited to laptops, handbags, briefcases and baby items. All other items must be checked-in.
